FAQ

Does The Sawyer host weddings & offer room blocks on-site?

Kimpton Sawyer Hotel is a celebrated wedding venue in downtown Sacramento, with indoor and outdoor spaces for ceremonies and receptions. We also offer wedding room blocks, so your guests can stay together at a preferred group rate, an elevator ride from your celebration. Our catering and group sales teams can help you plan the event and your guests' stay.

How does a wedding room block work at The Sawyer?

A wedding room block at The Sawyer reserves a set of guest rooms for your wedding guests in advance. Guests book within the block using your group link or code, receive your negotiated rate, and stay together in Sacramento throughout the celebration. Our group sales team sets up the block and manages the details for you.

What are the benefits of reserving a wedding room block at The Sawyer?

A room block keeps friends and family together under one roof, simplifies travel planning, and gives guests access to a preferred discounted group rate. It also puts everyone steps from Downtown Commons, Golden 1 Center, Old Sacramento and the State Capitol — and just an elevator ride from your wedding events at Kimpton Sawyer.

How many rooms should we reserve for our wedding guests? Is there a minimum number?

It depends on your guest count, how many are traveling from out of town, and your wedding dates. Most couples start with rooms for roughly a third of their invited guests. There is a minimum number of rooms per night required for the block. Our Sacramento group sales team can help you right-size the block based on your guest list and season.

How do guests reserve rooms in our wedding room block?

Once your block is confirmed, we provide a dedicated booking link and group code your guests can use to reserve online at your wedding rate. Share it on your wedding website so booking takes just a few minutes. Guests are also welcome to call The Sawyer directly and reference your wedding name or group code to book.

Is there a deadline for guests to reserve rooms within the block?

Yes — every room block has a cut-off date, typically a few weeks before the wedding. After that date, unreserved rooms are released to general inventory and the group rate may no longer be available, so we recommend reminding guests to book early.

Can guests access wedding room block rates if they arrive a day early or extend their stay?

Often, yes. Many guests extend their stay to explore Downtown Commons, Golden 1 Center, Old Sacramento and the State Capitol, and we can usually offer the group rate for additional nights before or after the wedding, subject to availability. Let us know when you set up the block so we can build in shoulder nights.

Can guests choose different room types, adjoining, or nearby rooms within the room block?

Yes. Your block can include a mix of room categories — from spacious rooms and suites with downtown and Golden 1 Center views — so guests can choose what suits them, subject to availability within the block. Guests are also welcome to request adjoining, connecting, or nearby rooms when they book. We'll do our best to accommodate, though room locations can't be guaranteed until check-in.

What is the standard check-in and check-out time at The Sawyer?

Check-in is 4pm and check-out is 11am. If your wedding timeline requires early arrival or a later departure, let our team know in advance and we'll do our best to accommodate.

Will wedding guests receive any special amenities or welcome gifts?

Yes, if you'd like them to. Many couples arrange welcome bags, in-room amenities or a welcome gathering for guests staying in the block. Our team can deliver them at check-in and help coordinate any wedding-weekend events at Kimpton Sawyer.

Can guests earn loyalty program points when booking through a wedding room block?

In most cases, yes — guests can earn IHG One Rewards points on eligible group rates, subject to program terms. Encourage guests to add their member number when booking, or to join for free before they do.

Can we reduce or add more rooms to the block if our guest list changes?

Adjustments are typically possible before the cut-off date. Additional rooms can usually be added if availability permits — one more reason to set up your block early, especially for peak wedding dates in Sacramento. The specific terms depend on your room block agreement, and our team will walk you through them before you sign.

What happens if not all rooms in the block are booked?

Any rooms not reserved by the cut-off date are released back to hotel inventory. Whether unbooked rooms carry an obligation depends on the type of agreement you sign — we'll explain the options clearly up front.

Is a deposit required to secure a wedding room block?

Yes, we require a signed contract and deposit to guarantee rooms and rates. Our group sales team at Kimpton Sawyer will outline exactly what's needed for your dates.
